Club History

Thank you for your interest in the Greater Atlanta Labrador Retriever Club

We are a old club, still in our infancy, but with a lot of energy and some good ideas as to where we are going and how to get there.

Recognizing a need for the support of a Club for worshippers of the Labrador Retriever breed in the Atlanta area, a small group of owners, breeders, conformation exhibitors, and field enthusiasts gathered after the Atlanta Kennel Club show in Alpharetta, Georgia in August 1995 to begin preliminary discussions on the feasibility of an Atlanta club.

Shortly thereafter, the first organizational meeting was held in September 1995, and the AKC and LRC were notified of our plans. At this point in time, there was only a loosely formed steering committee guiding our efforts. We continued to meet and drew up a Constitution and Bylaws which were submitted to the AKC in March 1996, and our first Officers and Board Members were elected and took office in July of that same year.
